Coolant re-routes

Post by WideOpenThrottle » Wed Jun 27, 2012 12:13 pm

Farting around with the hose that comes out the back of the head [Bunce no longer seem to have the perfect hose anymore by the way] only to find i now really need to modify the clutch master cylinder pipe as it is in the way & the hose gets pushed & flattened between the brake & clutch pipes. :(

There really seems to be no other option & now another step backwards & i say to myself how-come?...both Begi & the M-Tuned kits take this route!

Then it dawned on me :D... the cars in the US being left-hand drive have the clutch & brake master cylinders plus the pipe-work all on the exhaust side of the firewall allowing for heaps more room thus preventing anything rubbing through the radiator hose.

Certainly a trap to be wary of and so glad i didnt buy the M-Tuned kit at US $329.00 as i am sure it would have been a night-mare to fit what with the remote thermostat housing thats supposed to sit in there too somehow!

Can you flip the T.Stat housing to make the upper radiator hose run exhaust side?

Sucks that this has happened to you I don't think anyone wouldve figured that when almost every reroute Ive seen takes that route

Hi Kieran-that looks nice but part of my coolant re-route was to avoid my headers & dump-pipe heating the plumbing and as sprsta has done it i thought it would be fairly easy.
I will carry on with my original plan as apart from the pipe i am pretty well there. It will work once i free up more space with a custom clutch pipe [Waitemata Hydraulics say they do them frequently].

Thing is every time you change tack something else trips you up...but i will succeed!

my hose went down quite low with afew bends to keep it close to the plenum and away from the clutch lines

its much easier for the LHD guys

most people will have seen this pic but one more time cant hurt

The hose i ended up getting from Bunce is one piece from the T.stat housing to almost halfway along the plegnum by the throttle cable attachment. Then a length of Ali tube to tee-off for my heater return & fan sensor.I then have a Z shaped hose from here to the radiator.

The hose is low as well from the T.stat & is just above the chassis rail & brake lines.I did have a short spring internally in the hose but this just gave it more tension to rub on things so hence the decision to re-route the clutch pipe.

Experience tells me it doesnt take long for vibation/rocking of the engine to wear through things so better to be safe than sorry with this area.

Wideopen I have the M-Tuned re route on my car. Fitted it about 2 months ago.

Didn't really have any issues.....

You are welcome to come around and check it out......if it would be of any help with your routing....?

First track day since doing it and can confirm that the temps did not sky rocket at high revs like they did the first time....

I think I need help with the auto fan now though. I have a feeling the fan sensor is not working correctly now.....well it is working but the temp cut in point could do with changing. Fan needs to come on sooner than it now does....

All good as Waitemata Hydraulics modified my clutch pipe for $5.35 and i have now got tonnes of room! :D

You can change the fan sensor to cut in earlier as i have read it somewhere recently...will post it if i find where.
