Skillet, did you get yours yet?

Have you had it mounted and balanced yet?

If not yet can you let me know when you do/have?

Nope, customs is still holding on to it. Last time they did this to me with parts they held it for 2 to 3 weeks so I have a feeling they won't be going on for a while yet which is a pain. Would be really handy to have my reroute more than anything as I have an alloy radiator coming soon =\

I'll PM you when the fourth eventually comes and I get to mount and balance them.

Might check the tracking number then to see if customs has let it go. Cheers for the notice.

edit: Nope they still have it. =[

Radiators from A1 Radiators Christchurch arrived. Only checked one so far but forgot to take pics before putting it back into the box. Will take pics when we get to installing them into both cars.

Good luck with those camber arms, they have a reputation for not fitting properly/hitting on chassis

New Hartop Arrived

Post by GRUVBB » Wed Sep 18, 2013 7:04 pm

Ive scored a new roof. Scored a mounting kit as well. Made the most of todays sunny weather and made a bee line for home at 4.30 to sort it out.
Thanks to the replies to my queries earlier in week i set about removing panels belts and roll/style bar.
Got the striker plates mounted and the Frankenstein bolts.
Lifted the roof into place but need to do some adjusting to get a snug fit. Carried roof back inside my house and will have to attack it again when time permits..... Lucky i have looonnnngggg arms as its not the easiest of tasks manouevering those hardtops about on your own.... If only i had a garage and could use a pulley to lift and store the roof.
Having gone through the motions i have a couple of queries if the knowledgable could please enlighten......

1)Should the Frankenstein bolts have loctite applied to them. There did not seem to be an abundance of thread that locates into mounting plate.

2)Do the striker plates sit flush on top of the plastic cover?

3)Should that whole oval imprint be cut out to allow 'extra' movement for better alignment when setting up tension?.... Mine are fitting snug as i used a holesaw which allowed recessed to protrude through but not much slop around them.

4)Do the side strikers pull the hardtop down flush onto body?..... I started to adjust the running threads on the clasps and was getting a better fit but it started getting dark so i stopped and replaced softtop, grabbed a Bourbon and thought i would seek superior wisdom. Hence my written questions.

I have a set of japanese/English fitting instructions but they are vague and difficult to see pics properly.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

awesome to see the roof sitting on your baby, here's my take on your questions.

1) up to you.... do you ever plan on taking them out ever again?

2) mine sit flush.

3) preferably not. you should be able to get it to sit properly without making a hole that may rattle when driving.

4) yes. the hard top should be a good snug fit when latched properly.

My springs turned up this morning (thank you built4speed) and the spring compressors arrived yesterday (Thank you very much for the loan Warrior)
All I need now is to wait for another set of bumpstops to arrive as the local shock shop only had one set and then I will install them next sunday.

*happy dance*

one question tho' ... would I be correct in assuming that the slightly longer springs are for the front?

Yeah longer ones in front.
I did get them wrong one day (hungover, very bright day & I didn't have a pair if sunnys), the nose down/arse up hotrod look doesn't really suit an Mx5...maybe with some big wide rear wheels it could work though..
I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.
