Where's the passion, the dedication, surely you have a wife or kid you can sell? If not I've heard organ doning can be worth a bob or two.

Might as well shamelessly bump this thread
I'm selling my suspension setup too (and the MX5, separately)...

Me about 15,000 km.WideOpenThrottle wrote:Hi pioson & marinerblue
How many k's you guys have done on the suspension?
My Eibach springs and Ground Control perches I bought new. So total about 15,000 km.
My Koni shocks, FM shock mounts and bump stops I bought from a good fellow from our forum here - jif (http://www.mx5forum.co.nz/profile.php?m ... file&u=109). He said he did less than 40-50,000 km on them. So total less than 55-65,000 km.

I'm guessing up to 5000 as I only did 8000 in the whole time I owned the
car.
car.

A couple of people had asked me to hold onto them until they got the cash,
so I didn't relist... but time flies so first up with $600 owns them. Set
of Koni adjustables less than 5000k and repainted (fully stripped first) as
they got scratched and I'm fussy.

I know there's issues with the opposite case - aggressive springs with stock shocks, wears out the shocks prematurely. But the Konis with standard shocks... should be OK... one issue I can think of would be that a soft spring will go through the full suspension travel too easily, causing you to hit the bump stops. But if that's not something that's an issue now, then changing from stock shocks to Koni shocks probably won't worsen that tendency.Gravelben wrote:Are there any issues using Konis with standard springs? Tempted but not sure that I want my car any lower than standard.
For the ride height issue... there's three perches on the Konis, so you can do a rough ride height adjustment that way. Set it to the highest perch and I think even with non-stock springs you may be able to get really tall ride height

My two cents. Agreed, the koni shock is designed for standard springs, that
said going a little firmer on the spring would be good for added cornering.
Too much spring rate (harder springs) will cause the car to become lively or
bouncy as the dampening of the shock is not enough to control the spring.
Much like having a worn shock as the shock no longer provides enough
damping.
If the shock has too much damping for a spring then the car will lose
traction on bumps as the shock will stop the spring from pushing the wheel
back to the ground. Shocks and springs must match, they should also match
the road and comfort requirements.
The stock spring rates F/R are roughly 165/100 lbs for the NA and 165/120
for the NB (correct me if I'm wrong) I had some 335/280's on some matched
Bilsteins and they were amaizing cornering but a little on the hard side for
comfort. I think it would be fine to fit Konis' with 220/140 if you want to
retain the NA F/R ratio. Or maybe 220/160 on an NB.
Sorry for typos etc, it's late and I'm rushing this.

Thanks Marinerblue, I was wondering what the rate was on my old Kings. Kings do not actually publish the rate for their lowering springs, only for their special competition springs. Those rates do explain a lot.
I'm now running 400/250 on my current Konis and have had to wind the rebound damping to full on the rear to compensate for the higher spring rate.
PS: I have a surplus set of King lowering springs for an NB if anyone is interested.
