Looking at buying an MX-5 in the near future (once current car (Nissan GTIR)
is sold) and have been looking round the net at various Turbo systems for
the 5, and the price tags to go with them...just wondering if anyone in NZ
has experience in fitting Turbos to the 5
Am looking for a 89-92, looking to run it in the Targa in the next few years
so prefer it not to be a mint car, as quite happy to repair, or a car with a
blown motor etc, any help in tracking one down would be appreciated
Partner also looking at the moment for a V-Spec (BRG with leather?) 92ish to
move to from the V-Tech Prelude she has now, as after showing her one she
was quite taken with them
cheers for any help

Looking for 5's
Hi Michael,
Advice - don't buy an 89 / 90 as the early cars have a crankshaft issue that
will eventually rear its head on all of them... most are into the danger
zone now, post timing belt change. If you are really serious about adding a
turbo look for a 1.8 instead of a 1.6. They are better candidates. If you
are wanting serious power look for a 1.8 ex Japan with a torsen
differential. Plan on upgrading the clutch.
You can check out http://www.avoturbo.com for an Oz source of turbo kits,
www.dlralt.com for the home of the US systems, and www.miatapower.net to
join the Miatapower mailing list (a MUST for information before you embark
on this journey)
