shop service manual for MX5
shop service manual for MX5
Hi all,
I have tried to get the original shop service manual for a
1990 NA ex Mazda with no success, so am currently thinking I
will have to settle on the Haynes one (90-97), about which I
have read mixed reviews. These centre on it covering too
many models in some people's opinions.
Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions as to Haynes or
any other available manuals?
Cheers from (not so) sunny Blenheim.

Go here. http://www.mx5club.org.nz/club/books/
The best one in my opinion is the Mazda MX-5 1.6 Litre Enthusiast's Workshop
Manual: Covers 1989 Through '94 1/6 MX-5/Miata/Eunos. by Rod Grainger
ISBN: 1874105596
I have both the 1.6 and 1.8 versions and they have been invaluable.
You can get them from Amazon.com sometimes for about $30USD + postage.
Cheers
Mike.

Not buying fuel from mobil wont work because they are
not the major player in NZ.
BP and SHELL have a fuel sharing agreement where the
gas you get at either of the companies IS THE SAME.
MOBIL has an ever decreasing share of the market and
if you look at all the Mobil sites closing down, then
you would be forgiven in beleiving the rumours that
Mobil will pull out of Retail fuel in NZ within the
next 2 years.
Gull and (Caltex/Challenge) seem to do a better job
for thier customers than the other big three do so if
you want to hurt someone then the logical choice would
be the BP/Shell cartell that operates in NZ.
Oh yeah and DONT BUY ALL THAT CRAP IN THE STORE!!!

Thanks to all who replied on the service manual issue - I'll
be in touch with the Blenheim folks indiviually to save too
many list messages, but where did you get your factory
manual Carl? Thanks for the offer of p'copying; we just want
a good refce manual, preferably factory - but have only
found translated ones for NBs available online, not NAs.
We are going over the cooling system now, and replacing
hoses etc. on my '90; have a few leaks to address.
Also if anyone is interested, I just had the hard top lined,
and it makes a huge difference -much quieter- about as good
as the soft top now. Does anyone have recommendations for
quiet tyres? I have Firestone Guardian 60s that I'm looking
to replace..I will ask the tyre profs, but users are often
the best sources of info...

Hi All,
For those who expressed interest in this day - I have not forgotten. I am
waiting for Gazza to return from Japan as he was keenly interested and we have
spent some time discussing turbo options together.
At the moment it looks like we will be able to have both turbo and SC'ed cars
available. I will also have a full turbo kit (well that's the plan) from ECU
up in bits for you to poke and prod and see how everything goes together.
As an aside this is NOT a training session - I hope to learn from you guys as
well - but more of an informal get together, with a leaning to FI.
Now the bonus ... Its not my wife's cooking (although I am sure she will
volunteer to do the BBQ'ing) - But I may have secured a large area of Tarmac
suitable for Auto crossing. For those unfamiliar with AC - this is a 'track'
made out of cones that you are timed. There is only one car on the 'track' at
a time, and is a very safe way to improve driving skills.
Different to track racing - but still a LOT of fun (more corners). Its hugely
popular in the US (I was doing some there a few weekends back), it takes days
to get the grin off your face!
Power is not the answer for this kind of driving - the MX5 shines and the best
/ smoothest drivers will set the best times.
If you are interested just let me know. For those who emailed first time
around - no need to resend - I have kept all your emails.

A couple of people have emailed me directly asking if non turbo'ed /
supercharged people can come and 'play' on the FI / Tarmac autocross day.
The answer is of course - the more the merrier. If fact if enough non-FI'ed
people want to do the autocross I may split the two, so that people who want
to have a got on the autocross can do so without being bored by a bunch of
guys (and girls) talking about upgrading injectors, ecu's etc.
I am still talking with the people on the tarmac - it looks like we may be
able to get a regular time (either extremely cheap - or free - I'm working on
that). If people are interested in some very cheap, very safe (for driver and
car) tarmac autocrossing on a regular basis (or just the one day) please let
me know - having done it once I'm hooked and it would be great if we could get
a few MX5's to kick this off.

I know that this is trying my luck - but does anyone have a wideband O2 sensor
that I could borrow for a wee while?
I am prepping for some tuning and the narrowband wont hit the rows that I
need.
Thanks in advance.
