Hi All,

I've recently purchased an MX5...and I absolutely love it!!! Esp this last
week where the weather in Auckland has been great for top down driving

I'm also in the process of joining your club

Just have a few questions which I was hoping somebody to answer for me...

1) Does anybody know where I can get a Mazda owners manual from (I have an
NB model Roadster)?

2) For a 1.8L engine (RS version, with 6 spd manual), which type of petrol
do people usually use? Stupid question I know, but if I can save money with
the way petrol prices are these days without seriously affecting my new
baby, then hey why not!!!

Great list and club too btw. I agree with the yellow colour too! Mines an
evolution orange, in my opinion its just as nice a colour

Hi Tim, welcome to the list and congratulations on purchasing your MX5.

Try Ross at MX5Mart.co.nz for a manual. I also have the 1.8 RS 6 speed. I use 91 and the car is my daily drive car doing around 55km a day both open rd and city. I have been keeping data since I purchased the car and average is 8.4litres per 100 km (about 33 miles per gallon) best I have got was on a long trip which was 7.3 litres per 100 km.

I agree regarding the owners manual. Ross is the way to go.

As far as your petrol concerns go...I use Mobil Synergy 8000 (98 ron) or BP Ultimate (98 ron) whenever I can. My Engine timing is advanced to 14deg.
Most people use the less expensive 91 regular, but I find that at 10c more a litre, when I fill from empty (usually about 40 lt) I'm only paying an extra $4 per tankful. I find that 98 makes my car run smoother, quieter and (according to the butt-o-meter) quicker. Plus the additives in the fuels are helping to keep your engine clean so that $4 is just pennies in comparison.
Just my 2 cents worth (he says awaiting much derision :0)
Just FYI I used to run my 2002 UK 1.8 on 98 ron Shell Optimax and it made a differnece with that, too...when are they gonna bring it here from Oz??

It would be interesting to do a fuel consumption comparison as well. Might
be that the higher octane could giver better consumption figures and at a
difference of less than 4%, a 4% improvement in fuel consumption means
you're saving money apart from any other benefits of using this fuel. Must
try it sometime myself.

I spoke to Dr Don at Autoway services in Hamilton, and he said to me that the higher octane fuel that you use, the better it is. He should know!

Best way to find information from previous threads on the petrol question is
to do a Google search & limit it to sites = mx5club.org.nz

There was one recently on consumption etc which may help you.
