Slowing down electric windows

Post by Paul Murray » Sun Dec 11, 2005 1:25 pm

I remember seeing a thread about a maintenance solution for cleaning up some
parts to allow the windows to operate normally again. I have had no luck
trying to track down this information and over the last few months my 90 NA
electric windows have become slower and slower in their operation. Would
welcome some instructions on how to fix this. Regards

Paul

Slowing down electric windows

I remember this thread as well but can't find it...
most of the helpful tips ranged from "try CRC / WD40" on the cables, to "white grease" and then it got technical...

Slowing down electric windows

Does anyone know what the "White Grease" is called and where to get it
(preferably in small tubes, I don't really want 400ltrs). It's very useful
and is often used on plastic moving parts in CD players etc. I tried some
automotive places before and they were pretty unhelpful when I was trying to
buy grease by colour as you can imagine.

It's "lithium based" grease (keeps your bipolar under control too). CRC
make it see http://www.crc.co.nz/item_prod.asp?pid=118

Knowing that there are a number of folk out there running turbos at the
moment it would be great to know what build you are running and what
figures you are getting out from the car.

Mine is hopefully going in over xmas and is made up of the following:

Running on a 89 1.6
Full Flyinmiata Link ECU (already installed)
HKS Cast manifold
Garrett T28 Turbo
HKS External Wastegate
Greddy Type RS BOV
460cc Injectors
Evo 8 Intercooler
K&N pod filter

Looking at 2.5" piping to intercooler with 3" downpipe and exhaust.

Havn't sorted a clutch or diff as yet (I am guessing I will have to
fairly quickly)

I am expecting to run at 12PSI (sticking with stock internals) and am
aiming for 220 RWHP. I can verify in the New Year once I get it
complete and on a dyno. Everything I have read on miata.net indicates
that this should be achievable without too much effort.

Supporting mods installed have been new suspension and springs,
brainstorm sub-frame bracing and Flyingmiata strut brace.

C

Slowing down electric windows

Post by Grant » Sat Dec 17, 2005 12:18 pm

I just spent an hour or so speeding up my passenger side electric window
(1998 NB). Removed the glass and cleaned out all the grease and gunk in the
guide tracks. There was a build up on the rear soft plastic guide wheel that
had gone quite hard. Cleaned it all off and sprayed liberally with CRC White
Lithium Grease. I've had a can of this for some time and have no idea where
I got it from. It has the code 5037 on the can and is 300g NET (443mL).
The window now runs considerably faster and was well worth the effort.
My drivers side was ok as it has been replaced sometime in its previous
life. The inside of the door is white (the car is Grace Green and there was
some broken glass in the door. The door had been completely repainted
including most of the metal behind the door trim so it wasn't picked up in
the pre purchase inspection but I found out when I was replacing the door
speakers with some 200mm sub woofers. Had the Bose setup originally and the
sound quality was very poor. I left the tweeters in as they work quite well
with the new woofers.
