do u mean that stroking it out to 2.0 makes it a illegal motor or u could spend more to get more but it then becomes illegal?

Not illegal, just very expensive. My engine is out to 1929cc which is about the limit without stroking. I'm getting about 140rwhp and it is reasonably streetable although I wouldn't like it as a daily driver. I could probably get a bit more but that would require a lot more $$

Trying to get big HP out of a normally aspirated 1.6 or 1.8 is very expensive.

I think more that the tuning necessary for that power would make it somewhat less suitable for normal road driving - ie extreme cams giving big top-end power but not much low down, lumpy idle etc.

but really u dont need big power in a 900kg car. i reckon saving up to a 3sge would be a quality investment. There aren't any 200hp+ motors that Mazda make apart from Rotors are their?

The rotary conversion isn't the easiest if you are doing it for the first time, but there is a trick to it, and if you can find someone who has done it before, then it makes life a lot easier. Don at Autoways in Hamilton has done a conversion and I believe that he still has the car.

I have seen a couple of Lexus V8 conversion done without changing the subframe, one of them the whole conversion only cost him $8k apparently, and that included the cost of the car, but it is running the Lexus auto and he is a mechanic, so his labour was zip.

KL-ZE 2.5 V6 is 200hp, KJ-ZEM 2.3 SC Miller-cycle V6 is 230 (but apparently doesn't fit in an MX5), I'm sure the newer MPS motors make more than that too!

2.3 Duratec would be the go from the Mazda 3's/6's.
Same motor as in the Caterham 7's makes big horsepower with not a lot of work, not exactly cheap to buy though so just stick with FI

Caterham has some roller barrel throttles that liberate a ton of power along with headwork and cams. 270hp NA!

+1 on the turbo, I don't get the appeal of SC's but then I've never driven one.
