NA exhaust

Post by warrior » Wed Nov 09, 2011 3:35 pm

Before I put in my supercharger I am going to do the exhaust on my 1.6 NA. I have a stainless steel rear muffler coming but need some headers and a conecting pipe. So I have a couple of questions.

1. Any one know where I can get some good headers? REDLINE PERFORMANCE have some stainless ones for sale on trade me for $299. Anyone used these? They look great but are they any good?

2. I will be removing the CAT but should I stick with a pre silenser or just use a straight through pipe?

3. Where is a GOOD exhaust shop that does not charge an arm an and leg for work?

Any help you can give would be great

1. Don't know

2. Yes, replace the cat with a Coby or similar. Replacing with a bit of pipe can make the exhaust have a horrid cackle in it, especially on overrun

3. What part of Auckland are you in? I know plenty of good exhaust shops in Rodney, but other than that, I have had two exhausts done by Pitstop in Wairau road, and was very happy.

Also, for the best flow, make sure you use a shop with a mandrel bender, or purchase exhaust donuts. Keeps the diameter of the pipe consistent through the whole system.

Thanks for that, I am in Manurewa and will travel to a good shop if I have to. Will be going with mandrel bends 100%. Will only need a mid pipe after I get the headers and muffler so not hard to make im sure.

NA exhaust

1/ headers - make sure whatever you get works with a hotside supercharger (assuming yours is not a coldside kit)
2/ ask the muffler shop (see #3), they prob have a very good idea of results having done it before.
3/ I've used Al's mufflers (Wairau park) several times and am v.happy - but any other place that advertises in the back of hot rod magazines would also be pretty good I'd think.

The final exhaust on mine (after several changes!) was 2.5" , with a resonator and S-bend (ie non-chambered) rear can. It was a bit quiet with the turbo, but would prob perk up a bit with a SC.  :]

if your thinking about headers/extractors then budget on a new oxygen sensor too.

most extractors place the O2 sensor too far away from the engine and they dont get hot enough..you have to fit a heated O2 sensor.

Or if your going with a super charger you should be going with a wbo2 anyway, they're pretty cheap now days
