Changing standard exhaust on a '97

Hi all,

Just bought my first MX5 and am keen to change the exhaust as there is a rattle (carbon off the cat is rattling), I might as well upgrade to a more performance orientated/richer sounding exhaust. Any suggestion as what to do? and where i should go?
