B6T clutch in MX5?

Post by RMS » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:11 am

I bought a new clutch for my MX5 and it seems that it is actually a B6T clutch

(Exedy MZK-6316 HDB)

Can anyone tell me if this will fit the mx5 with a 1.8l flywheel or do I need to take it back?

Not sure about the B6T flywheel but the 1.6 and 1.8 flywheels in the MX5 are significantly different. The 1.6 flywheel has a flat friction surface right out to the edge while the 1.8 has pillars around the edge to mount the pressure plate onto. If you have have any doubts, take it back.

From the Exedy Aus website the correct part for a 1.8 is MZK6964.

Did you get it from the Exedy shop on Wairau Road or somewhere else?

Specs from the website show the B6T clutch being 10mm bigger OD
As you have a heavy duty button clutch you are obviously using it for something serious , Specs from the website show the B6T clutch being 10mm bigger OD but other sizes are the same so should work as long as it fits onto the flywheel

MZK-6316 B6T
Size, Spline OD & No. of Teeth 225 x 24.5 x 22
Flywheel Profile -20.0mm

MZK-6964 BP
Size, Spline OD & No. of Teeth 215 x 24.5 x 22
Flywheel Profile -20.0mm

Update..

A very patient gentleman at repco got out the B6T and BP clutches for me to have a look at.

Basically, even if it does bolt to the engine.. the release bearing for the B6T clutch is too bit and won't work.

There might be a solution but it seems like too much hassle and the gearbox swap is done now.

The clutch was from trademe (new) so I was hoping to get a bargain
