not the same one, but I used this one without any fitment/leaking/other probs on the monster... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 868001.htm . It's got fittings for an oil cooler (aka inter-warmer) too.

Thanks.
The factory one with plastic tanks eventually gives up.......the tanks have a habit of splitting (after a good many yrs, admittedly) and is marginal for competition, even with a natually aspirated engine)

Alloy radiator

Post by poison » Mon Mar 29, 2010 9:50 pm

I got one from Aussie and had real fitting issues. None of the holes
lined up and it was too thick for the air con pipes at the bottom.
That said at least this is a local radiator place so you'll have some
come back. My one got replaced in the end but long hassles.

you must've been lucky!!  I had overheating issues pretty much as soon as the turbo went in ... and the skinny-as factory rad was only 5 yrs old then. A thicker one fixed that.

My mate's one had to be rodded every couple yrs to keep overheating at bay (and that one was stock!).

Other radiator problems

Post by Mikkels » Sun Apr 11, 2010 7:55 pm

Guys I have been thinking about one of these. Having very annoying overheating problems with my 1990 (with 1.8 installed). Have had the car 8 years and put the 1.8 in 6 years ago. About 2 years ago had overheating problems. Ended up replacing the core with a double layer high capacity core. A year later we are all sludged up and overheating on hills. New core rodded out and system flushed with fresh coolant. Another year - this Xmas and same problem. Spoke to the guys at Trevor Morris. Talked me in to replacing the water pump. I did the work pulling out a perfectly good pump to replace with a new one. New thermostat coolant hoses flushed rodded out etc. 3 months later full of orange water. WTF. I have flushed yesterday until clean water. Filled with just water. Run for 80 km today - water like orange juice again. Flushed and fresh water again.

Does not overheat around town. Needs say Bombay hills at 100+k to get hot but what gives? Why the corrosion?

Any ideas appreciated.

Yes have had that out about 4 years ago flushed and fixed leak. Getting that out is not something you do on a whim unfortunately. Remove complete dash to get to it :)

you don't have to,we get them out without removing the dash,But if you have already done it,it should be clean.
I wonder if you have build up in heater/radiator hose's and steel pipes that are slowly cleaning it self out ,Maybe a good radiator/Engine cleaner flush out might help.
You just won't know how clean the 1.8 was inside in the first place.

Out of interest does anybody have a radiator out of a 1600 auto lying around they might want to get rid of?

Rusty water

Flushed twice now and better but you would not want to drink what is in there. Put some coolant in there last week but already looks sick. Anybody tried flushing liquid?
