HELP!!! Turbo insurance.

Post by Miatamad » Mon Nov 27, 2006 4:09 pm

Can anyone PLEASE tell me who will insure a turbo'ed MX5? My current company are less than impressed - which is a pity 'coz I thought it was cool.

Im with AMI..they were great....

I went in to see the local branch..(NEVER try to get insurance over the phone!)
It was so easy i couldnt beleive it.. My premium didnt even change!!!
I think the person behind the counter didnt exactly know what a "turbo" was, she just clicked the box that said turbo under the modifications heading and we were done. I got her to double check it and she said it was OK.

I would add to Glenn's comment by saying that although I did arrange the insurance over the telephone (with AMI), I asked to talk to someone with the authority to make sensible discretionary decisions. In the end they were quite happy to insure a car with a super-charger - just as long as it did not have a turbo-charger as well.

I regret arranging my mx5 insurance with AMI over the phone. They gave me a $1000 excess on theft, because of the soft-top :( , even with a reputable alarm :?

I was lucky as the guy I bought my car off already had it insured with AMI so it was a straight forward process.
