Anyone wanting to turbo their MX5?

Post by Miatamad » Mon Sep 25, 2006 12:03 pm

Change of plans means that I may have the perfect starting point for you.

I have tried to get the best I can afford putting this all together - so everything is great quality:

I have:
* A brand new HKS (not a copy) Turbo Manifold
* A reconditioned T28 Hybrid turbo - The perfect size for the MX5 - no play and in top condition
* A Evo VII Intercooler (Used) but in fantastic condition - Better flow than the cleap ebay or trademe jobs
* A brand new Greddy Type RS Blow of vaulve
* Also may have larger plug and play injectors (460cc) with new tops etc - have not been installed in car since new rubbers seals and tops were installed.

If you are interested please let me know.

Chris

I was looking for $1900 - I may have a Link electronic boost controller available as well - again brand new.

Hi Chris,
Can I ask why you halted the project?
One of the guys had his turbo kit for sale at $500, I got approval from my Budget Controller (wife) for the $500 (boys toys)
as she put it, might be a bit of a push at $2000 :)
But you never know ya luck, she wants a new microwave, so we may be able to do a deal.
Cheers
Biff

I cannot help with the Microwave - sorry (My wife thinks they put out rays and fry your brain)

I have the same budget issues at home - so I feel your pain. I'm not halting it - mainly changing where I want to go (Thus keeping all the other bits like the wideband sensors and the Link ECU). Basically - I have decided I want to take the power levels a lot higher than I was going too originally (thinking of gping to go stupid power as opposed to silly). All the info on miata.net pointed to setups like I am selling were good for 240 rwhp (lets not argue everyone - Thats just an educated guess).

In terms of the $$$ - I really cannot comment - as I dont know the other bits that were being sold - But I do know that you couldnt get all this for the that kind of figure (Sorry).

Having seen all of these parts I can say it’s a fair price, all new or recon. The guy who sold just a turbo and manifold for $500 was giving it away, really should have asked at least $1k and that wasn’t for a new manifold or recon turbo and didn’t include I/C BOV etc. It really was a giveaway. Look on TradeMe just for a recon turbo, then import a manifold and you are spending lots of money.

Woo,
I'm not complaining on the price, believe me, just that the previous sale set the expectation with the "significant other" that I could achieve what I wanted for around $500, I will just have to do some negotiations :)
Cheers all

Chris,
What part of the country are you in?
Yep an IT guy, ex-Telecom, Telstra, Xtra, now doing IT/Wireless Project Management on network builds, so being self employed and paid by the project we do have to watch the budgets.
Add the fact that my wife thinks that "hotting up cars" is something I should have gotten out of my system in my teens makes things a little harder.
I would like your kit, did you have something in mind?
You can contact me on 021 922 433 or 03 383 3494
Cheers
