its a very small step up, the shot from above makes it seem larger than it is due to lens distortion 95%+ of the pipping is 2.5". its such a marginal volume change i have no worries with lagWideOpenThrottle wrote:Is it an illusion or does you IC pipe go up a bit in size with that 90' bend?...if so you may get some unwanted extra lag!

I just noticed the size of your oil return fitting, the Internal Diameter (ID) of the fitting looks rather small (could be the photo angle), Just make sure the ID of the Fitting in the sump is the same dimension or bigger than the oil outlet of the turbocharger or the oil returning to the sump can bottle-neck eventually causing oil to pour out the exhaust housing. Which as you can imagine is not good.
So you will no longer have an MX5 but a rather large smoke machine.
Not a Dig but more trying to prevent you from having a headache
As I have been in this situation and trust me its not fun rather like food-poisoning, you think you've thrown it all up and bam there it goes again....

haven't really decided on what to do. but whichever is cheaper is the way to go. i'm not really aiming for 400hp but something i could use for daily driving and an odd track day here and there.Liam_Irl_NA wrote:Higher engine capacity - stroker kit - at the moment I am running a safe-ish 220 when everything is going sweet but with power goals north of 400BHP I think it is the easiesy way to achieve this.SLYDIT wrote:whats the point in changing to a familia engine? the stock mx 5 engine is perfectly capable wwith good tuning. mines been running 200WHP for nine years and i havent touched a thing inside it.babapogi wrote:im subscribed!
i'm also planning to turb up my mx5. and currently looking for a familia engine to swap it with.
i've got an auto one at the moment so deciding whether to convert it to manual for now or swap the whole thing for turb engine.
i've currently got my eyes on a manual mx5 that i can tinker with. but i've read simialr good things with a gtx and na8 engine so either will do!

CordedBowl wrote:I welcome DIY turbo mx's! But that IC piping is weird yo~
You'll need a better radiator and a cooling panel too.
ic piping was made for the super charger. i didnt make it, i have done the best with what i have. I welcome cool story's, thanks for the input.
yea new radiator is on the list. may remove a/c n re route piping at a later date .
so i spent a long time organizing a list of -4 and -6 fittings for block and turbo. they turned up . two wrong fittings..... the most important two, the ones for the block 10mm 1.5 pitch to -4 for oil and 12mm 1.25pitch to -6 for water, instead they sent me two 10mm fittings both wrong thread pitch.. RETARDS!!! also missing one hose coupling for -6 water line. would have had it running tonight. cheers turbo shop Dunedin or the people they got to supply the bits

i got my fittings from ATP turbo in the states. i didnt even hook up the water to my VF10.....9 years later still running fine. i used -4 for the oil line and used the stock banjo bolt. make sure you use the right banjo bolt as they often have oil restrictors in them. ( especially the ball bearing turbos which you can over oil and blow seals)

yea i thought about not running it, have read mixed things.
although it dose seem like the water lines are only really there for when the car is shut down.
the gt28 has been restricted at the core from factory , last turbo build we ended up welding the supply fitting at the turbo and re-drilling it.
i just cant believe the screwed up. i mean fuck, i did all the work coming up with the dam list lol. all they had to do was follow it.
i went to ATP but cbf waiting on shipping ( look what happened anyways lol)

I found that data logging was the best to see what was happening with the engine. Tbh ive found the boost gauge pretty useless. The light is simply a visual of rev limit nearing or boost creeping up over setpoint.

htis is what it looked like in prototype stage when i pulled the cluster to replace the dial faces. you just trim the blue high beam mask off from the inside and modify the lamp holder taccept the LED. then run the wiring tails down tothe ecu. If you were really tricky you could move the high beam indicator to an unused warning lamp location.
