I want a second hand turbo

Post by NicF » Tue Sep 03, 2013 1:19 pm

Wanting to go the turbo route soon, and I'm looking round for an internal wastegated one that won't break the bank. Something like a TD04 would be fine. The trouble is I'm hesitant to go the TM route where I can't view before forking over the cash, I'd rather buy secondhand from someone I know.

Anyone got something suitable, or can put me on to a trustworthy seller?

I won't be going for super boost, 150HP or so would be amply, so something smallish would be fine.

wrx turbo would be a good choice for small hp and fast boost response. im running an older vf10 off a legacy which is great.
id try for a standard wrx turbo over an evo turbo...the evo ones tend to be well fucked with.

Yeah, the TD04 is standard on the wrx apparently and often replaced by a bigger TD05. If I could find one an oem off an sr20det would be good too, they'r garretts and ball raced.

T25 turbos pop up quite a bit for a little amount of cash and a huge amount of potential.

TD04 can be found even easier and cheaper..

Yeah, trouble is I've got a welder champing at the bit to make me a manifold, but i need to know what turbo i'm going to be using before I can unleash him.

There's a GT2860 on TM at the moment which has apparently done 400km but suspiciously cheap for a garret.

Anybody know anything about the CT20 from the Supra?

Can I ask what the details of the manifold are, and at what sort of cost?

Materials plus I do all cutting and grinding, he'll do the welding for a dozen.

Plus he's setting up a jetboat and wants me to solder up an MS when i do mine.

He's got a full workshop, everything short of a dyno.

the toyota CT turbos are CRAP

make your flanges from at least 12mm plate, that way when you machine them flat after welding youll still have some meat on them. i had mine done over with a CNC mill after it was welded. a schedule 40 log manifold is all you need for a road car. fancy equal length just isnt necessary and will just fry everything in your engine bay. Have a look at my cardomain page for pics of my turbo manifold and suby turbo. if you can find a nice vf10 then go for it...they are a great turbo for the mx5...basically a gtx turbine with a much bigger compressor on it.

Yep that's the plan. I've been inspired by your build. Very tidy. Tx for the advice on the Toyota
