Done your research? They can severely hinder the life of the housing/compressor wheel and the gains for a street car might be minimal

For a race car where you need the power/heat they're great, but you will end up decreasing the life of a cheap turbo by about half, or an expensive turbo by about 10-30%. The heat will also eventually damage the exhaust components too. Just heat shield what you can

Who told you they're bad? Because I've never had an issue with mine, and several friends run them, again with no issues. It has stopped the paint peeling from my bonnet though...

It is very common knowledge that they lead to premature wheel/housing failure. In saying that, they only speed it, they don't directly cause it, so it might never happen, or it might do it 3 times in a row. Depends on temps, size, etc... Google turbo beanie/blanket and failure.

i guess its more about keeping the heat off the bonnet.
i have ordered 1x of the scarles one to try and do have the heatshield as well but just found a couple of the stays broke so blanket will be better from this veiw point.will leave off heat shield for now and see how it goes. :D

I riveted a bit of repco heat shield to my bonnet. Works great. I have about a 3 to 5 mm gap between it and the bonnett

I looked in to these as well. The examples of flaking downpipe metal and failed turbos put me off in a hurry. Ended up using Flyin Miata louvers instead.

These made a MASSIVE difference to underhood temps especially around the intake area.

I know cause I checked before and after with a indoor / outdoor thermostat from the warehouse
