So just finished installing new motor and she wont start.
We have fuel with good pressure.
We have spark.
Even if the CAS is out is should still try to start or backfire?
Fuel lines are the right way.
Spark plugs are good.
Is the sensor going into the thermostat going to stop it from starting if its broken?
Checked all fuses in engine bay and under steering.
We get what smells like fuel coming out the intake in smoke.
What else could it be?

Check you have the leads in the right order on the coil packs.
Some ecus will require the temperature input, unsure if mx5s do.

Leads are in the right order but I will triple check. Might have to replace the sensor and see, could anyone unplug their one and see if it starts?

I would think that it would require the temp sensor being plugged in. I know the engine in my other car didnt like it being removed/wired up wrong as it made the car run so lean that it wouldnt even start.
CAS timing set right?

Temp sensors plugged in but the plastic holding it snapped, so its in just not secured.
CAS is set the same as it was but it should still start?

Leave the plugs out overnight to let the fuel evaporate

if you have smoke out the inlet then your timing is proboly 180 degrese out try swaping the leads from one coil tothe other .the sensor on the thermost housing is just the fan switch so wont stop it from starting.

Whats the new motor out of?
Found it on Facebook I thought it was an NB
If your cam timing is correct check the sensor on the right of the crank pulley it reads the timing wheel position and it is very VERY easy to knock slightly out of place.
I am assuming the 1.6 NB's run of a timing wheel the same as the 1.8's

So what engine have you used ?,Is it a standard NA 1.6?,or a NB 1.6?,2 quite different motors when it comes to ECU and timing side of things.

I have a few more things to try tomorrow but details are,
NB6 Block and head, Modified intake Cam to accept NA6 CAS, All NA6 Accessories(Alternator, intake, exhaust, sensors)
So timing is the most likely cause

Sorry, was a slight difference in the timing gears from NA6 To NB6 Motor. Made me stuff up the timing because of it.

Get a spare intake cam, cut off the key for the CAS and weld or attach onto NB6 Camshaft. Use all NA6 accessories and NA8 alternator.

il hi jack this to save making a new tab thing seings how the title applies and some of the symptoms.
iv done an engine conversion from a 93 na8 into a 90 na6. got a meagasquirt. cop ignition. light weight flywheel. 530cc injectors.
and iv turbod it but i cant see that interacting with any of my symptoms.
basicly it wont start. it trys cranking and stops. checked the battery and all seems sweet.( 12.5 volts. drops to 9 when cranking). hooked some jumper leads on with another car and kept doing the same thing
i put a power bar on the crank to turn it over by hand and theres a point where it gets very hard to turn. if you put abit if weight in to it itl turn slowly and can hear a slight hiss from the back of the engine on the intake side. i can smell fuel in the intake manifold and its left a puddle of fuel on the ground
any help would be appreciated.

by cranking and stops, do you mean its like slows down and dies or is it like you let the key go and its gone from full cranks to dead?
Have you checked spark?
