Cert Costs for Turbo build
Hi Guys, I found information close but not exactly what I was after.
Does anyone know how much to cert a turbo? It will be the only thing certed, no coilovers etc etc
Im trying to budget it out as that and a megasquirt will basically be the only things I will have to actually pay for.

also if you want to change your wheels in the future you will need to get another cert unless they are exactly the same dimensions as the ones you have fitted at the time of your certlast_resort14 wrote:Usually around 550 to600 from memory , but do remember if you have to cert coilovers etc in the future you will have to pay all over again.

Thanks guys! Yeah this will be a on the cheap build. Dont want coills and have my favourite wheels anyway.
Hopfully getting a ms for sort of free, have someone who has a selection of turbos I can have/cheap and make me a manifold so its only the misc things and cert, that, will cost.
Should consult insurance company tho...
Aiming for early next year

Defeats the purpose of having adjustable suspension really doesn't it.SLYDIT wrote:and you have to have your car set at the height you actually want to use it at. otherwise they will record whatever height it is at cert time...thanks Mr cert man for telling me that.....NOT!
A lot of NZ's cert laws piss me off.
Cool sunroof bro...

The reasoning behind it is that they are certifying your car at a "safe" height. By adjusting it, they cannot verify it is still safe. You CAN cert your car with multiple wheels/heights, just costs a bit more for the inspection as they have to road test/document both sets. As for turbo. Do you really want to turbo your car with stock suspension? Everytime you put your foot down, your car will do wheelies lol

the certifier is certifying your suspension geometry at the time of certification they give you a tolerance of +or- 5% iirc
they take it for a test drive and deem that the car is safe and has adiquite handling characteristics for said height
for all they know you may raise/lower and not get an alignment done.
so as well as decreasing the life of your tyres you may be reducing the level of grip you have on the road, this may not be to a safe level.
and if i were certifying anyones car and they crash and kill themselves i would be damn sure that MY ass was covered

It is a crock......I have lowered springs in my car. The car is lower or as low as most and it is 100% legal. If you put adjusatbles you have to pay someone $600 to tell you its safe? It is just another way of making money. It should cost nothing and be done when you get a WOF.
And I have some ohlms sitting in my garage waiting to go in so yes it does make me mad.

BUT how many Cefiro's do you see bouncing down the motorway
NONE!
because parts/a set of adjustables have gotten soo cheap these days you dont need to cut the springs or have your springs etc uncaptive to be up with the it crowd
the laws are old and wont change with the times
they will add extra things to be checked for but wont stop failing things that are not within the laws that were passed 5-10 years ago
HOWEVER there are alot of people on here who have been through the cert process and will have found some small things that the engineer has pointed out that IS a safety issue
Would you take someones life into your hands if you were in your certifiers position??
Like I said..........if you go for a WOF it should be done there. You should not have to pay hundreds for someone to tell you your car is not safe. Isnt that is what a WOF is for? If it is not for that then what is it for? I only drive safe cars and I only want other people to drive safe cars but this is just money making....nothing more nothing less

Re: Cert Costs for Turbo build
Just had mine done By Neil Fraser for $575.00 inc gst.Denz wrote:Hi Guys, I found information close but not exactly what I was after.

Good part is it failed only on my 10mm bolts for the driveshaft safety loop!....i used 10mm head & not 10mm shaft!
Just send thru the pics when done & i am sorted apart from the cert plate.
I also did have a quote [$437.00] from another guy in Massey but he ummd & arrrd over the safety loop that Neil Fraser had told me to do so i said seeee-youuu!
I guess all things aren't equal in the cert world.
