can't see it being too hard. Plenty of people fit them into Lotus 7's and RWD Starlets etc.
Question is, why bother when turbo charging can be done pretty cheaply.
A stock 1.6 with a turbo kit from Begi in the US ($2.5k ish landed NZD) would yield around 150 RWHP! Thats easier and cheaper than an engine Swap!

if it was a modern powerful diesel then it would be pretty quick! but otherwise not worth the effort!
There is a Jag E-Type that was at the local mechanics opposite my work with a Nissan Patrol diesel engine in it! Sacrilege in my mind but the owner owns diesel and turbo in Hamilton so I suppose its a showpiece for him!

havn a troll around at other places and just thinking it looks a 3S-GE is where its at to make it worth its while. Also what are the stock 1.8's like at making power as NA? With bigger injectors(not to sure on how much the stock ones flow but lets say bigger injectors means like 500-600cc jobbys) a angry cam, bit of head work and 4 big ass throttle bodys what would you guys reckon it would be like in terms of power? Also raising the red line a bit would require a bit of work on the bottom end of would it all be sweet to rev to like 8500?

as with any motor, you do the work, spend the money, you reap the benefits.
An N/A 1.8-2 Litre could easily put out 200+hp with the right work and $$, more if you're willing to have a non streetable motor.
The 3sge is a great motor for tweaking power from as it has such a good racing background and 300hp is attainable with the correct mods.
This costs big $$$ though.
Its just easier and cheaper to piece together a turbo setup on an MX5.
150-240hp or so is attainable on stock motors.

you can make up a cheap kit from commercial superchargers (old toyotas etc) for a similar cost to a cheap turbo setup. 150-160hp.
For big power it will cost more and they take power from the motor which is the downside.

Hells teeth.
Someone give that MX5 a decent burial. And shoot the idiot who turned a more
than reasonable sports car into a sub performing tractor!

The cost of any engine conversion seems quickly put to shame by the ease and power that canbe had from turboing the stock 1600 engine. You need a cert regardless, but there is no "easy" conversion engine.
I wouldnt touch a 3sge with a barge pole after having one in a fraser, a stock s15na sr20de engine and rwd box are a way better option, as the 3sge is hard to get a decent rwd box bolted on. The rotary option is difficult ive heard has the trans tunnel is too low and needs more clearance about box to raise the engine. v8 conversion needs a new front subframe.
