Hi Guys
Our 91 1600 split a radiator hose recently and got fairly hot, we have replaced Rad, water pump, hoses etc and had the timing belt done at the same time.
About 2 weeks later i noticed a strange noise from the front of the car when deccalerating down hill.
This noise (upon closer examination) only happens on dropping revs and when facing downhill. It appears to be coming from the timing belt/rocker cover front area. Car drives and sound quite normal in anything but these circumstances!!
Can anyone make any suggestions or pass on advice on what this might be?
The mechanic is going to take valve and timing cover off in the morning to look but it would be nice to get a rough idea before hand...
Cheers
Mark.

maybe a long shot but check the heat shield on the exhaust..the mounting tabs can break casing rattling and other funny noises

Thanks Slydit, I appreciate the reply. However it has extractors and no heat shield.
But Miata forum have suggested cam belt not installed correctly and slapping valve cover. Certainly what it sounds like....
Hopefully will find out early this morning......and be CHEAP!!
Cheers

Turns out the timing belt cover bolt was loose and hitting the water pump pulley.
Nothing major thank goodness.
Cheers.
