Looking for a hard top to borrow or buy

Post by poison » Wed Mar 03, 2010 8:07 pm

White preferably or black I guess, or any colour if bad paint and cheap enough I can get it repainted. Auckland or Hamilton.

I have an NB can someone confirm if the NA and NB hard tops are the same?

To be honest I don't usually like the look of the hard top but I must admit I saw Sprsta's one the other day and they look good on red cars - I see you around a lot you must live close to me.

Hard tops are the same for NA and NB. There is a lot of info in the garage section of Miata.net including all the part numbers for the clips and frankenstein bolts.

I just picked up a slightly rough one from CH but it is Mariner Blue. Would look good on your white car ''
TG Sports, classic roadster - modern technology. NA1800, 99 head, 11:1 +2mm Wiseco pistons, Link LEM, Alloy f/wheel, JR headers.

Is it with heated rear window? Can you do a deal with frankenstein bolts / side latches?
I'm local (Chch) - could drop in to have a look any time that suits you, so please hold the TradeMe for a day or two.
Not sure how black would look with twilight blue, but my wife reckons black goes with anything.

Whoops - didn't see that ('twas late and didn't read entire thread).
If poison doesn't want it, then I'm keen to have a look.
Cheers

I bought my hardtop from brownie, can definitely recommend - arrived in Auckland very well packed!

:)

edit: What did you need to borrow one for? If it's for checking fitment/clearance I'd be more than happy to lend mine.

Ummm "outside storage"?

Forgive me for sounding like a Dutchman, but if its just around the house I'm sure a car cover will achieve much better results for a fraction of the price...

Thanks for the idea but i already have two Car covers are not 100%
waterproof and don't breathe, they also collect evaporated grpund
water underneath thus they end up keeping the car nice and warm and
damp. The interior will go mouldy pretty quickly and rust will start a
party pretty soon too. They are ok if you use the car regularly but
not for longer term outside storage. This one is from personal
experience.

mine is waterproof (a vinyl material), but yes - I wouldn't use it if
you aren't going to air it out occasionally.

I still like my idea of taking a sledge hammer to that wall in the back
of your garage :)

The damp is less of an issue on my hot, windy concrete driveway.

On the odd occasion, I've had to put the cover on wet due to my leaky window seals. It usually breathes dry within hours, and better a humid car than one with puddles of water inside. Might have to try dry it first come winter though...

Re the brick wall, sounds like fun, count me in! Actually, the crappy old Chev/Toyota Cavalier out on the drive has proven its mettle in going through concrete block walls with minimal damage (nice work Sis! ). Wanna borrow it for a bit?

Hot driveway....Wicked, everywhere I've ever lived it rains now and again :)
Concrete absorbs water and it evaporates under the car and gets stuck under
the cover and gets into the car, from experience they do get really mouldy
in just a few weeks.
