Have seen the program already. The episode featured a test drive of the Ferrari FXX. One story doing the rounds is that Ferrari would only let them have it if Schumacher drove it. How convenient........

I'd heard it was Schumachers own personal FXX they used, hence him driving it. Not much difference between rumours there though. Last I heard current Stig was still Ben Collins.

You're wrong - I am the Stig! :-)

I wonder why Schumy would be bothered playing the Stig when he was paid a multi
million dollar sum to race in F1? I doubt the Beeb could afford his fee... and I
doubt Schumy would be interested in a Beeb salary even for retirement pocket money.

I am sure the Stig is normally taller than shortass Schumy.

The stig was a creation of Clarkson in order to create a 'benchmark' test driver that they could use to test all the cars around the track, to stop people moaning about one test driver being better than the rest. However I dont think they realised quite how much intrest would be generated by people trying to work out who it is. A masterstroke of TV planning, in the same way that the 'load of people in a warehouse yarning about cars' was a genius idea.

The 'first' Stig (black overalls) was one person, it was former F1 unknown, and probably the unluckiest driver in the world Perry McCarthy, who revealed he was the Stig in his book Flat out, Flat Broke. Unfortunately, part of his contract stated that if he told anyone he was the Stig, he would be fired, hence the episode where black Stig drove off the end of an Aircraft carrier. I doubt that Perry McCarthy has made any appearances as the Stig since then.

The new white overalled Stig has been reported to be Ben Collins, but in reality, it is probably a number of different people, who can be used when the 'main' Stig is busy on other appointments. Part of the genius of the Stig is that he can be replaced by anyone, and no one will question the validity of a cars time around the test track based on who is actually driving it. It also means that the Stig can appear at any number of promotional events, or car shows, anywhere in the world, even simultaneously, simply by someone donning a white suit and helmet.

Hmm, so what you are saying... is... that he and spongebob square pants
have the same MO?

Actually... has anyone ever seen the Stig and Spongebob in the same
place at the same time? I certainly haven't.

I smell a conspiracy...
