Where to get my car tuned?
Hi guys need some help, I do have an MX5 so dont give me a hard time but thought I would ask this question here as this is a great forum.
I also have a 1992 MR2 non turbo that is in need of a tune. I have done plugs, leads , dizzy cap, fuel filter fluids etc but the car needs a tune. It seems to be running rich when it is cold.
The car when warm runs good and has heaps of power but runs very average when cold.
What I want to ask is should I take my car to toyota to tune? Get it dyno tuned? Or can anyone suggest where to take it?
Any help would be great guys

My brother had a Toyota which badly needed a tune, we tried everything we could think of, and eventually took it to Toyota, they were great. Turned out to be a broken throttle body... but anyway the labour charge is $80 or $90/hour, I can't remember, it's not cheap anyway, but they are good.

Sounds like the car doesn't need tuning. Sounds like the car needs maintenance and some replacement sensors or whatever.
Dyno tuning is really for adjusting programmable ECU or other piggyback devices' settings.
Wouldn't recommend taking it to Toyota unless you've got cash to blow and nothing better to spend it on. Jump on Toyspeed or MR2.org.nz and they'll be able to point you at a decent mechanic familiar with MR2s.

This. My local mechanic found a fault on my old Toyota that Toyota spent around 1k on parts trying to fix. When I still had the problem, I ended up keeping the parts as they had discarded the old ones lolMr. Shine wrote:Sounds like the car doesn't need tuning. my guess (having owned a couple of Sw20 MR2s.....the MX5 is better
) is either a temp sensor or your oxygen sensor- If you are fairly mech minded, do a search for the complete MR2 repair manual which is online (or was)- This will give you all the testing parameters and procedures for the various sensors...usually you only need a few basic tools and a multimeter (oh, and because it's an MR2, you'll also need monkey hands and a really strong back to prevent injury when leaning into the engine compartment haha)

Ex: 1991 BRG NA6, 1998 White RS, 1997 Wine Merlot M Edition
