Amazing.
I have to admit, I don't dig the look, but the pure practicality of getting rid of air and not having to worry about punctures; tire pressure etc really appeals.
I can't help but feel that like any major new innovation with significant repercussions on existing economic interests, there will be massive industry pressures to keep this new tire out of consumers hands for many years to come. My bet, 20 years at least before we see this go mainstream.

Hopefully they put sidewalls on the production versions...
Otherwise people like me would end up with cars handling like crap because the tyres are full of mud
Not having to worry about punctures appeals, but I prefer being able to adjust my tyre pressures for different situations/loading - perhaps they could make a hybrid between those and a normal tyre where it will have a minimum equivalent pressure but the ability to put air in and raise the pressure above that. A bit like run-flats but less compromised as the sidewall doesn't have to be strong enough to take all the force itself.

Ah yes the Tweel. Theyve been around for years in prototype form and are in theory an excellent idea. Imagine being able to tweak every aspect of the tyre structure to the Nth degree. Side wall stiffness in particular is the big benefit here, in that you can run an infinitely stiff sidewall without reducing the compliance of the tyre. If you imagine that in motorsport the biggest variable is nearly always the tyre, and tyre design has changed very little over the years, then the Tweel represents potentially one of the biggest revolutions (pun intended!) in the automotive industry in recent years.
