Trying to find MX-5

I bought a red MX-5 new in 1989 in Auckland, from what was then Checkpoint Mazda in Manukau. The number plate was MXOO5 (not MX005) and I am trying to track the orginal car down. The number plate has been changed but I don't know what to. Could anyone point me in the right direction or have any knowledge of this car? Thanks Greg
