Squeaky Clutch

Post by Wayne Sinclair » Wed Mar 30, 2005 9:02 pm

Hi all.

I have had my MX5 ('96 - 1800) for about 18 months now and a squeak that has
been there since purchasing, and has been on the must investigate list, is now
getting a little worse. When I depress and release the clutch a distinctive
squawk, like sliding polished steel over/past rubber sound is heard. Same
with or without motor running. Does not happen when riding/slipping the clutch
and tends to quieten down a little after some use or when it gets warm. So I
have ruled out the thrust bearing(?) I have lubricated the end of the slave
cylinder push rod where it contacts the release fork and also the pivot of the
release fork inside of the bell housing. (yes you can just reach it by
removing the fork boot). I have also lubricated the clutch peddle shaft at
the peddle box. Anybody got any suggestions.
PS. No the car is not green.

I have the same squeak on my red 95 Wayne. It comes and goes, gets worse in
the cooler weather and/or when the car is not used often, i.e. idle for 5 - 7
days. Have done most of the things you mentioned, but the fix is not long
term. Maybe it's an Invercargill problem.
