Touching up the fade

Post by EricW » Wed Mar 30, 2005 8:01 pm

Having a red one, which I think we agreed is about the worst colour for fading
of the plastic bits, I finally got P...O...d with the car looking like
patchwork and got the nose cone, bumpers and rear panel sprayed and did the
boot for good measure, as it was a little faded as well.

The whole point of this is to recommend Hibiscus Coast Panelbeaters to any of
you in Auckland. OK, he is a bit out of town, but I dropped the car off
yesterday, got it back tonight and it looks fantastic, like new. Everything,
including the nosecone, boot lid, bumpers, rear panel, lights and badges got
stripped off the car, nothing masked and painted in situ, and all oven baked.
The colour match is perfect and the whole car was cut & polished for a shade
over $600.00 all up. I can't imagine that it has added any less than that to
the value of the car, I am well chuffed with it.

Add them to the list of good suppliers

Regards

Eric

Touching up the fade

Post by poison » Thu Mar 31, 2005 10:40 pm

Hi Eric

Good to know that, as of tonight I need my front bumper repainting :-( we had
a dumb ass visitor who can't work out the difference between forward and
reverse and drove half way through my 9 month old (from the last dumb ass)
garage door. Unfortunately the thing stopping him going further through was my
Mazda... And he was driving an Auto, for f*** sake how hard is it to drive a
car. Hit my car so hard it popped all the screws holding in the front number
plate.

Touching up the fade

Hi Gazza,

That's bad luck, the guys name is Dennis Wakefield and his number is
094248258, you can say I recommended him

The total cost to remove, strip and repaint the nose cone on mine (an NA) was
$303.00 inc GST.

I think you are on the Shore somewhere, I have seen your car about. If you
want to drop the 5 up here one morning, you can give me a call on 021 2708820
and I could give you a lift back to town/home or whatever.

regards

Eric

Your visitor wasn't driving a green car was he?...now that would be poetic justice :0D.
Sorry to hear it anyway.

Touching up the fade

Not so long ago my sister reversed into my parents driveway.
She hit the front of my car very hard (Toyota work car) and pushed it
backwards through the wooden fence.
Just picture that in your mind...

The back end of her car...both ends of mine...my parents fence...
The panel beater is still laughing.

My Dad just shakes his head and refuses to acknowledge he had any input in
teaching her to drive.

Touching up the fade

Post by MX5PWR » Fri Apr 01, 2005 1:37 pm

Ok its confession time. A couple of years ago I had my good MX5 parked in the garage and the MX5 I was doing up parked behind it in the drive. Having just put a new battery in the do up car, I was sitting in the drivers seat and thinking about having to reset the time and stations on the stereo as I turned the key - car was in gear, shot forward into the back of the good MX5 pushing it into the steps at the end of the garage.
Try explaining to your insurance Co how you can damaged the front and back of one car and the front of the other one and try telling you mates that you have dinged 2 MX5's!!! They are still laughing 2 yrs later.

Just as well it wasn't parked behind the wifes BMW !!

Beat that.

Touching up the fade

Post by poison » Fri Apr 01, 2005 6:34 pm

Hi Eric

Thanks for the wonderful offer and I will take you up on that one, it's a big
hassle living in the big smoke sometimes when you need to drop a car off. I
have to come back home to Glenfield as I have a company car I need for work.

Maybe a couple or 3 weeks away as I can't actually get the door open :-( I've
got the garage door guy coming tomorrow to see if we can do a temporary fix.

By the way, AMI have been great, they realised how bad it is not being to get
out of the garage so they came out this morning and placed an order for a new
door.

Talking of odd Insurance claims, I have an associate in Hamilton, anyway his
wife was very status oriented. He had a BMW and she a little Ford but wanted a
BMW. They built this lovely house in a nice new subdivision with maybe only 20
houses at the time. One day my friend is coming home from work and see his
wife coming the other (about 200m from their house). As he watches (in Horror)
she slowly drifts onto his side of the road along a dead straight road and
dives head on into him writing off the Ford and so so damage to the BMW. It
turns out she saw a house that was being painted the same colour as theirs and
was so unhappy about this she lost concentration (at least on the road). So
imagine your insurance claim "Head on crash with wife 200m from house"... how
suspect would that sound, domestic violence at a new level???

Cheers
