Headrest Speaker Installation (was Summer drink holders... )

Post by Nicky Patchett » Wed Feb 23, 2005 12:21 pm

I know we've been through this one before but I tend to live by the rule that
if it doesn't apply on the day it goes in one ear and out the other... :o)

Anyway, ...thinking of attempting to install headrest speakers this weekend
and wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks/advice or pics they would like to
share.

Have not puchased the speakers yet so if anyone has a recommendation that
would be great too (I'm North Shore based). I should also add that I will be
out "in the sticks" for the installation so if there are any particular
tools/tape/wires required that I should know about beforehand that would be
most appreciated. I do have the speaker space inside the headrest and also
the connecting wires under each seat.

On another topic, weather check for Sunday is fairly average around Auckland
but for those of you who might feel the need for a spin I can recommend the
Kaiaua Wine and Food Festival 10am - 4pm, the drive through Kawakawa Bay is a
nice way to go..

Cheers,
Nix

Recently sombody reported reasonably good sound from 4 inch
Reactor speakers at the warehouse. (two corner bits need
cutting off.) THEY ARE 1/2 price this week at the warehouse.

I have these installed in my MX5 and am happy with the results. They are
many times better than the originals but I haven't compared them with any
other speakers. I didn't cut anything off them at all. Just removed the
original Mazda housings and fitted the speakers in the space. My seats are
leather so don't know if that makes much difference. Can't go wrong at the
price!

Hi Nix
Your seat backs should already have a grove or fine split/cut in an angle down
the back of the seat leading away from the back of the headrest and ending at
the base of the seat - you should be able to feel/find it with your finger (
this is for the wiring).

Hi Carl,

Thanks for pointing that out I just went out to check and I can definitely
feel something "groovy" down the back of the seat :o) That should make the job
a bit easier.

Nice to meet you at the Manfeild weekend recently - did you (like me) get the
cold shower Sunday morning??? Great little hotel that Denbeigh...
