Welcome AlexJust getting the hang of this list!

sits around waiting for someone to say something interesting. Some
people reply a lot on all subjects, some say nothing and just listen,
and others offer expert advice or point people in the right direction
when their specialist subject comes up...
My opinion follows (and my opinion only)...I would welcome peoples opinion and advice. I have been fortunate enough to
have some great cars over the years - ones that only got better with mods
and refinements. Is the 'five' different? I'd hate to pilage what belongs
to motoring heritage.
With regards to what you think you should do to your car... and unless
you are specifically looking to enhance performance/handling etc (which
others may know more about), don't listen to anyone else. It is your car.
If you want to put 21" wheels, body kits, paint it pink, go for it. If
you want to cover your car in chrome, bolt on a bonnet scoop, fit under
chassis fluro lights, install an 18" subwoofer, put in a V8 with 4" dual
tip exhaust, expose the cam belt, stick on stripes or something else a
bit more bold, feel free. I'd guess that most of these have all been
done before you (I've personally seen pretty much all of them), and the
MX5's owners' are quite happy with their creations.
The MX5 probably does have a 'heritage' (as do all cars to some extent),
but unless your goal is to enhance or keep the light weight affordable
sports car 'heritage' concept, or stick to the fixtures that were
available on your Ltd model only, you do whatever you want to.
I'd put money on the fact that almost all MX5s in the NZ club have some
form of aftermarket modification - some a lot more than others. Some
club members will think your modified car with body kit and turbo is
fantastic, others will cringe at the fact that your car has a cup holder
in the centre console, when the original spec model had an ash tray.
The only thing I'd say is (and this is from personal experience) that a
car can sometimes be harder to sell if you have a lot of bold
'non-reversible' modifications. Generally a stock standard car is
easier to sell, but with the MX5 this is not always the case (e.g.
aftermarket shocks/wheels or a style bar etc can be more appealing to a
buyer than the standard). But, hey - I'm not planning on selling mine...
If someone tells you not to put 17" chrome wheels on your MX5 because it
doesn't suit the 'heritage' of the car, don't listen to them. However
if they explain that putting heavy 17" wheels can upset the balance of
the suspension, by providing more unsprung weight, you can form your own
opinions and decide if you really care or not.
cheers

Congrats!
So is it a NZ or Japanese model, and what goodies does it have?
One of the great things about these little cars is putting your
personal touches to it, so just go for it! Drive it and be happy

The only collectible and preservation-worthy MX5 *to me* would be a M2
1001 or 1028 </drool> !
Check out miata.net and miataforum.com - great resources.
PS - I have some stainless scuff plates if you're interested, from my
somewhat pillaged '96 Special Edition.
