Hello
Hello
Hi All,
Having just brought, or should I say the wife brought, a 1990 MX5. We
have joined up to the MX5 club and I have joined up to the e-mail list.
So I thought I better introduce myself! My name is John Field and I
live/work in Wellington, maybe not the best city for an open top car!
I work at the Carter Observatory as an educator. I am a keen astronomer
(surprise, surprise) and have built a number of telescopes in the past.
I haven't worked out how my telescope can fit in the car. In my youthful
days I helped restore a MGB roadster that had been found in a hay barn
in the Wiararapa, sounds like a classic movie scene. It took over a
year with us all giving up our evenings and weekends, the effort was
worth it. Driving with the roof down reminds me of those days... I must
be getting old! I can see lots of things to do to enhance "Betsy" and
see the car as great project for me, Vivienne (my Wife) rolls her eyes.
At least it's better than spending it all at the pub. We are looking
forward to going on a few tours and get together.
I have enjoyed reading the tips and comments and hope to be able to make
a few contributions in the future.
Cheers
John

Hello
Hi John,
There must be a way of mounting a telescope on the top of the windscreen
frame! One of those ones with the eyepiece mounted on the side should work
(you can see I know the finer points of telescopes).
I'm in Blenheim and often work on Black Birch Range in the Awatere Valley.
Even stayed in the observatory house that used to be on the mountain as you
possibly remember. Pity the road is not MX5able. an evening drive up that
mountain, roof down and an astronomer along, what a trip!
More important though, (please no red v green posts!!!) what colour is it?
Grant in sunny hot clear skies (well sometimes) Blenheim.

Hello
Hello John
Welcolme to the list
I am a member of the Hawkes Bay Astronomy society so Ill keep a look out
for you and your MX 5 at Star Date next year. On the subject of fiting
telescopes into MX5s it is quite amazing what you can fit into an MX5 as
long as you have the roof down and you aren't carrying a front seat
passenger.
Regards Doug
