Hi all, tossing the idea round of putting a rotary in the mx5.
Has any one on the list done this? Any advice?
My main questions are what, apart from the engine will need to be changed or
modified such as gearbox, electrics, etc
Thanks
Karl and Cassandra Blumenthal

Hi Karl, Don at Autoway Services in Hamilton is in the process of doing this.
A major job as fire wall needs to be modified. Give him a call at 07 847 5484
or autoway.services@xtra.co.nz.
Good luck
Nigel

There's a few 13bt MX-5's over here in Western Australia.
There's a "kit" you can get from Japan to make the job easier.
What ever you do; you'll want to keep the Power Plant Frame or you'll just
be doing a botched job.
You could also consider putting a Nissan SR20DET in, Speedworks / JUN
Australia make a kit :

performance parts are dirt cheap for them as every second kid buys an S13
and wraps it around a light pole.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yeah , Hi I have had a 13Bt in my car for a couple of years now ,, still
running standard box , just starter/flywheel/clutch all changed over as for
electrics just running micro-tech computer ,,... needless to say this car is
really fun when it on the road its still only as relyable as a rotary could
be.
If your looking for just a bit more speed/accleration just chuck a turbo in..
needless to say engine fitted in well be just remeber more power more things
brake , diff/axels , I left mine standard but after the engine was worn in a
i started booting it the standard mx-5 rear end did'nt last so now has
series5 rx7 in it, but its still a dream to drive, also there is a guy in
chch who has a full race one that he has had for a while would be good to
see what hes done..
