V8 MX5 article

Post by Ian Chapman » Wed Aug 24, 2005 10:26 am

Hi All

Just saw that the Sept issue of NZ Classic Car has an article on an MX5
with a 5 litre V8 - I think it's on about page 86 for anyone that is
interested.

It actually looks an extremely neat installation. The article also includes an amusing look at owning an MX5 by Eion Young.

I assume it is the Christchurch car. I saw that car when on a combined West
Coast trip with Nelson and Christchurch club people some time ago. An
extremely neat installation and it sounds very nice too! Haven't got my copy
of Classic Car yet.

There's a guy in the US who stuck a ford v8 into his brand new Miata.

(and it was lighter than the Mazda BP 1.8 !)

He's now supercharged it I think.

Probably 400-450 HP at the bags.

I wonder how long it takes a V8 to empty the MX-5's tiny fuel tank.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I think they did some work on my fuel tank at the last service, it used to
only hold $30 of petrol, but now it holds $52!!

Dear All

For your information, I have now bought a copy of Classic Car and seen the
article. Wonderful photographs, lots of information on the bits used but,
disappointingly, very little impression of what the car feels, performs or
handles like.

The story is by Eoin Young, and therefore as usual half of it is devoted to
Eoin Young's own MX5 and trips to the Barley Mow. I respect and admire his
ability and tremendous contribution to motor sport journalism over the
years, but I must admit if I want to read something which throws light on
its subject rather than its author, give me Nigel Roebuck any day.

Great letter in Classic Car from Roger Spragg. Is he a subscriber to this
list or does anybody know him? I'd like to make contact.
