Broken Window Zip, looking for a slip

Post by Ken McNoe » Fri Jul 15, 2005 11:55 pm

Hi people.

Went and saw Paul today and brought a fantastic under boot storage
net!!!

He suggested that I put feelers out there and see if anyone has a slip
for the zip for my rear window, as mine is stuffed.. (Nigel, do you have
one floating around???)

I thought someone might have one from a replaced rear window, or roof.
My Zip doesn't need replacing, just the slip, so I really don't want to
have to pay for a whole zipper, (poor student and all!)

I got a replacement for mine from North Shore Canvas, on Archers Rd
(Glenfield, North Shore) - they make awnings for boats, and other
such things. Note that mine is an after-market zip (came with new
glass rear-window), so is probably not the same sort of zip as what
you need, but they should be able to order something appropriate. If
it says 'YKK' on the slider then I reckon your chances are good of
getting a replacement easily.

I suspect you can buy the real thing from Mazda, for some unearthly
sum of money - I haven't checked.

If you are buying from somewhere other than Mazda, preferably get a
locking zip, to give you an illusion of increased security :-)

I got them to order me a spare too - they were only $2 each + $2.50
postage.

Awesome thanks heaps Karl, I will head there tomorrow!!
My Zip has the Mazda symbol on, but hopefully they should have something
that fits.
Cheers

Hey Ken

Come on Ken, this has been covered before... the main man for anything to do
with an MX5 soft top is Al's upholstery 0-25-937 009
somewhere local (on the Shore, I forget where) he really is the Shiz.

Indeed, Al is The Man. When I asked him though, he didn't have any
zip sliders and wasn't able to order me one. Having said that, I'd
still try him again if I needed one. :-)

You learn something every day. As I am on the wrong side (well and truly) of
50 the term Shiz eluded me. Thank goodness for the net. I assume the second
definition here:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shiz&r=f
is the one intended!

Hi,

Hoping that someone may be able to help me.

I am looking for a 1.8 MX5 engine - anyone got one sitting around the
front room that their wife is nagging them to get rid of?

I have checked Ross' web site and he is only dismantling 1.6's and
engine imports has none either.

Failing anyone on the list having one 'spare', can anybody recommend a
good auto dismantler?

Thanks a ton

p.s. I'm North shore based.

Hi zorruno,
Don't feel bad!! I had no idea till Paul used the term. It would seem
that a slip is the bit on the zip that zips it together.

Hope that helps
