Smart ideas for fitting a wind blocker ?

Post by GEEMCB » Mon Jul 04, 2005 8:13 pm

Greetings, all

Some bright ideas would be appreciated ... I'm trying to find a way to
attach a polycarbonate sheet (aka wind blocker) within the large single-hoop
style bar adorning my car.

I'd really like to be able to attach it so that the 50mm chromed tubing
frames the polycarbonate - this means finding a way to attach the sheet like
so ...

The alternative is to use some marine canopy clips & attach to the rear of
the tubing like so ...

Not as neat, but potentially easier to do.

Any ingenious ideas out there on how to achieve the top option? (without
having to weld tabs to the bar & rechrome - ouch $$$ !!!)

Greg,

Don't know if this works for you, but could you get some 50mm ID
polycarbonate tube and split it, thus forming a "C" section channel, to be
glued onto the edges of the wind blocker and then the whole thing slid
between the hoops, with the C sections sitting round the hoop and the wind
blocker sitting centrally between them. You might have to put a flat on the
outside of the pipe to get a good bonding surface with the edgeof the
polycarbonate sheet

I will try to draw what I have in mind

Just an idea, but it might work

For my windblocker I had it laser cut to size, complete with several
slots around the edges (& mazdaspeed logo). I bought some rubber edging
to tidy up the perimeter and attached it to my twin hoop bars with Black
Velcro cable straps.

There is a picture here on my site (I think this link works - my
connection keeps crashing!!)

Greg,

Cut some slots in the polycarbonate, and loop some velcro straps round the bar, and through the slots. Works great on mine!
