Flywheel ---performance

Post by bert wouda » Thu Jun 23, 2005 8:58 pm

Test the car before,...and after on a >> Dynamo meter << for BHP and KW
and
see if you have gained any horses ...make notes RPM and gears etc ...
this was a part of my job (years ago ) after LPG/CNG conversions and high
performance cars ... (lost part of my hearing in one ear through this
shitty job )

Flywheel ---performance

I have no experience on mx5's but much with both aftermarket and lightened
factory flywheels on Mazda rotaries and I can tell you that lightening the
flywheel increases output, less power used to accelerate the motor means more
left at the wheels to accelerate the car.

You can expect to find a slightly more lumpy idle from your motor as a result
of this.

Always remember to maintain the engine balance when doing anything like this
and your motor will remain reliable.

a rolling 2k-6k rpm 2nd gear acceleration test is probably the best
way to eliminate variables. Average time of 3 runs down the same
stretch of road :)
