Paint my wheels

Post by Mikkels » Tue Mar 22, 2005 5:47 pm

I have purchased some M style wheels for my 1990 from Trade me and have had
the polished. They look superb but before I put them on the car I need to
have the wheels lacquered.

Who in Auckland should I go to? Somewhere near to Remuera would be good.

Cheers

Hi Don
I'd avoid getting the wheels lacquered - I got polished aluminum ones years ago and found that an annual polish keeps them looking smart, I got professional advice from my panelbeater who stated that lacquer is bloody hard to remove and reapply if it gets scratched!

I'll second that, I had laquered wheels on a Holden I had a few years ago,
looked great when I got the car, but a year later they looked just awful, and
almost impossible to do anything about it

How about clear powder coat??? Hard as nails, I have no experience with this
on wheels but just chucking in an idea...

Depending on the design/shape of the wheel, and annual polish may turn out to
be a major amount of work...

OK so the thing I'm trying to prevent is oxidation and
pitting caused by water sitting on the alloy surface.

I'm Ok about giving the wheels a bit of a polish every three
months or so as long as I can get those marks off with metal
polish.

What do they do with those flash new polished wheels you can
buy? I thought that they must be protected in some way.

Could I use Silicone spray to protect them?
