Tyres and pressure

Post by Ken McNoe » Sat Jun 18, 2005 3:42 pm

On the subject of tyres, as most people know I have recently obtained my
first mx5, so now that I have clarified that I can ask the stupid
questions. =)

I have the original alloy wheels and have just pumped up the tyres to 35
psi. What do most people have their mx5 tyres at?? My car seems to have
lost the "hug the road" feel.

Waiting with baited breath...

Running ours on Kumho Powermax at 28 PSI, seems a good compromise between
comfort noise and grip.

Don't forget though that the space saver spare needs to be a lot harder, 60
PSI is about right.

Hi ya, no my car has power steering, didn't come with any manuals etc so
not to sure what the manufacturers recommendation was. But I decreased
the psi to 29 this morning and have taken the car for quite a long drive
around today and it has been hugging the road really well.

Original manual for a 1990 non-power steer MX5 is 26psi (180kPa) front and
rear and 60psi (415 kPa) for the spare. Tyre size is quoted as 185 / 60 R14
82H

I have power steer but find car a little sot/rolly at 26psi.Run 28 rear and
30 in front feels much sharper. Mikw

Mine is non power steering (and with wider 15" wheels).

Handling while moving is fine, a tad heavy at lower speeds.

Thomas.
