Trade me item for anyone thinking of more power for their MX

I started out with an absolute mint '90 with 33k (verified as much as
can be via VIR) on the clock - thinking that this was a great base for a
DIY turbo (which it is).

So I started with the usual base work - Brainstorm sub frame bracing
front and rear, new Koni adjustable suspension, new King performance
springs, performance Bridgestones (blimmin heck they are expensive
aren't they - I didn't see that cost coming) etc. Hopefully, with a
nice strut brace and larger brakes (off a 1.8) going in over Queens
Birthday weekend (it's too wet for the boss (wife) to make me work in
the garden on that bl**dy retaining wall).

Anyway - whist waiting for parts to arrive from the US I did more and
more study on my turbo / power options, and decided to rethink where I
was going and what I wanted to do.

I want to get to 220 - 230 at the wheels (that should do the job with
the git down the road with the M3) - so I know that I need a fairly good
setup - but I wanted to do it myself, not just getting a FMII kit and
bolting it on (no disrespect to anyone with a FMII - they rock) - I
wanted to learn. Thus I thought I would start by getting a 1.8 and
totally overhauling it and throwing that in. From there I will go will
make up a turbo setup based on the Garret t28 ball bearing setup - from
everything that I have read this gives the best playoff between output
and spinup.

Yep - I know that there is a lot more to be done so things don't brake
(clutch and diff spring to mind - LSD may help as well) - but it will be
a long term project and I will just keeping adding to it as I can afford
it.

no offence Chris, but wouldn't it be easier/cheaper to flick it and
get '94-97 1.8 model instead? All the 'big' bits will be on it
already, no need to muck around with wreckers and mechanics and
certifiers etc.

cheers,
Jeff

No offence taken. You raise a good point.

However, The car I picked up is REALLY, REALLY tidy (and Silver a
personal fav. Colour (PLEASE don't start up the what colour is fastest
threads) - I would be so bold to say that it was one of the best
condition ones I have ever seen. (its my 3rd). No credit to me here -
the previous owner was meticulous looking after it.

I love rummaging around for engines / brakes etc.

I have a mate who used to prep the BP engines for a racing team - and
his labor comes real cheap (my wife makes his wife's to be bridesmades
dresses - he makes me and engine (and teaches me at the same time)

Certifiers - well that can be accomplished with Photoshop and a good
printer (just kidding) - I will have to get this done anyway when I add
a turbo or rollcage etc. Might as well get a lot of them done together.

Chris,

I see you are after some brakes?? I have just bought some 12" rotors with willwood 4 pots so i dont need my stuff, (1.8L DBA X-drilled, slotted, vented front rotors, brank new GENUINE mazda pads, calipers, 1.8L caliper mounts, and std rear rotors.) The DBA's the pads, and the mounts are brand new and have never turned one revolution. The rotors are $346 each the pads were $162 (from memory) and the mounts were about $110 each.

Have a think if its what you want and make a offer
