Manfield open day this Sunday: MX5's welcome

Post by Warwick & Heather » Wed Apr 27, 2005 7:15 am

I see a clubsport day is on Sunday. $40 for the day and you can run a road
standard MX5 if you put a fire extinguisher in it, wear overalls and a helmet.
Cars run at 8 second intervals over 4 laps throughout the day and you dont
need a special licence.More details and a entry form on the Manfield site :

WARNING to those that are coming from out of town!
Went to the clubsport day last year with all the required equipment but got
turned away while entering the track as my MX5 has no roll over protection. No
warning of this ruling on the entry or disclaimer form.
If anyone can confirm this ruling has changed ,I'll be there. Also be there
early as later in the day they let up to 30 cars on the track at any one time
, of any quality or speed.

No mention of roll cages on the Manfield site. Ill call the secretary tomorrow
and get a ruling then list it on the MX5list.
Those of us racing last weekend had half cages or better, so passed
scrutineering.

Oops, I obviously missed something here, I thought the club did organize a
weekend at Manfield just recently.
Several of the committee members spent a lot of hours of their own time
putting it all together.
In fact I believe the last issue of topDown had several references to the
success of the weekend, so why the inference that the members are keen but the
club is not. --

Time for another strong COFFEE

Would a hard-top count as roll-over protection?

Maybe you could borrow one - but I guess you may not have the correct fittings
on your car.

The 6 Sunday open days between now and December are organised by Manfield as
a day to run your car at speed, but are not a 'race' as such.
It was originally an introduction open day without rules for boy racers and
the likes, but the local paper reported Motorsport NZ stopped it after people
piled their mates and girlfriends ( ah girlfriends) into their Evo 7 and ran
at 200km/hr down the straight backwards... It was a disaster waiting to
happen. Now the format has changed, there are a set of regs. entry forms and
no passengers.
You are not timed (unless you time yourself) , or paired to race someone as in
a dual sprint- it's just time on the track.
Do Hard tops count as ok?- last Sunday (intermarque series) a number of cars-
MG's, MR2's, Spitfires and road cars didn't have roll cages at all- just hard
tops, targa tops etc. The regs say classic open tops are at the discretion of
the Clerk of Course...
