12 psi sounds quite high on a stock 1.6 engine.
Are you going to put a metal head gasket in?
I think the AVO kits run about 7psi.

Re the Head Gasket - yes I will be.
Re: 12 PSI - this is what the FMII kit runs on the same engine and
people seem to be able to run them like this day in / day out without
issue. I have done a lot of reading on the miata.net forums and 12PSI
seems to be regarded as safe - anything more however will need the
internals changed.
I will start with lower boost and slowly ramp it up.

Hi Chris
The Purple people eater has:
a GTX VJ20 turbo (small-ish)
FMLink
ACT HD clutch + kevlar disc
RX7 550cc injectors
better brake pads and tyres
"Stage 1 lightening" - ie the easy stuff
12 psi, stock headgasket for >40k km now.
lotsa other stuff
... probably only 180-200 rear wheel horsies! (haven't dyno'd it,
rather spend the $$ on tyres!)
waiting to be installed:
VF23 ballbearing turbo (from a Subie Sti)
torsen
wideband o2 sensor
bigger intercooler
etc etc.
It also needs a better radiator, the stock one barely holds up even
under normal use!

Just like to say a big "thank you" to Frans (and anyone else involved)for organising yesterday's Northern run to West Brook winery.
Even tho it kept threatening rain for the most part we had a dry run with around 30 cars turning out.
Apparently a few people managed to get lost out in the back blocks of northwest Auckland, Annette and I had no such problems - we just found out it pays not to "follow the car in front" ...in case that car is not ACTUALLY part of the run :OD
Thanks again for a lovely day out,

David..
You dont need metal headgaskets for 12psi in any
modern engine that is well tuned...
In the "good old days" people used to throw a blower
on their v8 or wind up the boost on their turbo
without doing proper tuning. The massive amount of
Knock/detonation would spike the pressure in the
cylinder and blow the head gasket as it was the
weakest link. So the "fix" was to put in a metal head
gasket, but then they wondered why the pistons/rods
failed.
There is just about no engine that needs to have a
metal headgasket fitted to it for more power...(When
using stock internals, when you go to forged pistons
and 30psi boost thats another story) the only
exception i can think of is the toyota 7MGTE. which
has crap head clamping.)
The trick is to tune properly and keep the knock away.

Thanks again for a lovely day out,
Nix

The set up we are going to be running is GT2554R, though maybe if the
customer wants to stretch his budget we could go with a GT2560R but not sure
its worth it for a street car.
FMIC, GTX injectors, walbro pump, rising rate FPR, Link ECU.
How much boost you can run is all relavent to the size of the turbo. From
what I understand 12psi is fine with the Trust kits and similar turbos.
