I have seen and heard confusing reports on whether fitting the front tower
brace (or whatever you want to call it) is worthwhile. Mazline in
Christchurch have these for about $140.00, I think.
Should I invest in one for my 1992 or save the money for other toys?
Grant.

Front upper shock brace
Hello Grant
Here's a reply to your question, from an earlier discussion:
"The MX, unlike many other vehicles has double wish bone it tends to keep the camber stable when cornering.
Because a front top tower brace is mainly for keeping camber stable there isn't a lot of extra benefit. The main benefit would is additional stiffening to avoid transmission of shock to the rest of the car.
.
Ross"

It is a 1990. Just purchased it off the mx5club website b Silver with 29k (verified) on the clock!!! It was absolutely mint condition, I am one happy owner.
The link is www.miata.org <http://www.miata.org/> for brainstorm.
Also reviews for the product are located on miata.net - http://miata.net/products/chassis/bspbrace.html
I have also purchased new adjustable Konis and King springs, but wanted to install them separate to the bracing to gauge the impact that they had. Can anyone recommend a good installer in the North Shore?

Grant,
Well worth the expense. You'll notice the difference doing 180K
across a
rail crossing or any other bad surfaces.

Front upper shock brace
Save your money, I have all the braces and tower brace does the least in
my opinion, when I have removed it I have felt little or no difference.
You can get them off ebay for about NZ $60.00 including postage.

There was a noticeable difference back when I had the stock (100k
km)shocks, but with Konis, I can't tell once I took the brace off
again. So it stayed off
FWIW, there's still a healthy effect to having the cockpit brace and
hardtop. Remove either and the car turns to jelly!
Also, the factory rear subframe brace on mine is spot-welded on!!
Interesting...
