What an incredible opportunity just to partake, even if it does not make a
world record it may be the only opportunity most of us have to be involved in
a fairly decent attempt at one. And I agree with Bill (AKA William)
Manukau??? might as well start in Taupo :-)

Also Great Idea Ian, I will do the same.

Any chance of the committee hitting up Mazda (as they get the advertising, you
can guarantee for them this is all about free advertising for the new MX5) for
a hundred plus T shirts (max one per car) for club members who attend with
"World record etc etc"... This will also be a good thing for our club
advertising wise.

But at least this may make it more attractive for some members to come up from
Hamil-town etc which is certainly good.

And committee members please note the almost reasonable event start time,
10am, not 8:30 or 9:30 although 11 would have been better...

I just had an idea that may be useful.
There are lots of MX5s out there not in the club. It would be great to
get them into this record attempt as well.
I have printed the notice off the club site and will put it on as any
MX5 windscreens that I can and hope to attract more participants to the
event as well as targeting potential new club members too.

we can possibly get more of the advertising flyers that Mazda printed if
you wanted to distribute some. Or you can wait to get yours in the post
(if you are a club member...) and copy it.

I suggest you contact Frans, he has a bunch ready to be posted:

Also, don't forget to print out a Spotted form as well and put it on the
window at the same time ;)

I changed my mind (again) and have started a dyi turbo setup.

I have purchased a HKS manifold (cast), t-28 turbo, intercooler, bov,
440 injectors and have someone to fabricate the appropriate piping etc.

My question is in regard to the aftermarket ECU to run the thing - I
know that FM use the Link, but I don't really like it - have others any
experience with other makes that they would be happy to share? Budget
for this part is iro 2k - so I know that I cannot look at the top of the
range toys.

Before you spend $900 on a clutch, take a look at the
"XTREME" clutches from australia...
Ive got the 1800 size clutch with a 750kg pressure
plate (which is very similar in pressure to the ACT
clutch at around 45% clamp increase) and a factory
disc for my turbo project...
Very easy to drive, infact if you drove it without
being told there was a HD clutch in it youd never
know!
And the good news is that they are only about
$450!!!(plus fitting)
Give Don at Autoway services in hamilton a call and
tell him I sent you!

I also heard that as the record was a new one (i.e. never done before) then
any number would have done it! Don't know if that is correct but the number
suggested early on was 200.
Got a nice brochure on the new MX5 from the local Mazda dealer today
presumably as a result of the registration details given. I have never dealt
with them before.
I still want one.

My inlaws taped it. I can transfer it to CD or DVD if you want a copy.
Unfortunately it's not online in the TV1 archives.
I might try TV1 for a copy seeing as I was in it.

I will be very surprised if TV 1 send out copies , they charge NZ $ 120.-
per second !!! of their footage .

I send them some footage I shot in the past ,... it took weeks and a few
very angry phone calls before they paid me .

I have it on tape, but it only lasts 50 - 60 seconds or so. I also have the TV 3 version which is probably even shorter.
It certainly wasn't worth getting shell dust and muck ground into my leather seat from the cameraman's feet! At least he went away with a flea in his ear (and almost fell out of the back of the car when I gassed it a little :0D.

Trade me is a great place to look for comparative prices - there are a
ton of MX5's listed every week and you can generally fine something that
is close.

The one listed at
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... ion-373295
95.htm is at 10k and he infers that they are close to the 15% so guess
at 12k. It looks in mint condition and has ...

Engine built by Edgells sept 01, done about 20,000k's since.
Forged Pistons
T25 Turbo
RX7 Intercooler
Autronic Computer
2.5" exhaust (dual's)
127Kw with 12 psi (but now at 18psi)
Bilstein coilovers
Bespoke boot lid
Custom paint job
Headlight intakes
Body kit
All Certified
Featured in july 04 NZ performance car.

Personally I am unsure of the look - but you could always but this and
trade the wheels. In short if you can get a car like this for 12k an
agreed value of 8.5k for a stock car is reasonably fair.

They cost so much as the hella light units are at
least U.S$65.00 each, then theres the frames.
Those hella units really are top quality though.
they can be bought from the U.s from "rallylights.com"
