During the recent installation of a new radio unit, it became apparant that the particle-board speeaker covers were at the end of their life - no wood left for the secrews to attach to. I spoke to Ross at MX5 Mart about replacements and instead he offered complete door panel liners from a variant of the NA that had pockets in. These were very simple to fit (using the same clip holes) as the original. The long arm rest has gone but the pocket sticks out far enough to rest an elbow on if necessary. All in all, a very elegant and inexpensive solution to the lack of storage space.
Of course, it is also valid that if I have managed for so long without the extra room, I probably didn't need it at all.

Door panel liners
If anyone picks up on this idea and has a right-side long door armrest
in good condition, I'm looking for one!
Those thinking of wind-breaks on roll bars could check their local boat
chandlers for stainless steel dome studs, which are easy to fit. The
male parts can be pop riveted or pk screwed to the bar and the female
parts punched into the wind break material. These look the same as the
domes used for the battery cover in the boot.
