Exhaust under chassis (was Re: luggage racks)

Post by zorruno » Thu Nov 23, 2000 5:37 pm

a number of people have done it here - Peter S has written procedures
http://www.mx5club.org.nz/maintenance/spare_relocation/
this page even shows part number from 'Pit Stop' and estimated pricing
As my 94 MX is our only car & space on extended trips is at a premium I have
been thinking about adopting a different approach by moving the spare wheel
under the chasis... there are a number of instructions re this procedure
on the
MiataNet forums. It usually means realligning a section of the exhaust
system

Exhaust under chassis (was Re: luggage racks)

I too have been watching this conversation with interest. I probably can't help with any local
knowledge (as I am from Queensland) but I thought this may be of interest.

A number of us were looking for "kick plates" for out MX5's and having a similar problem, too
expensive. One of the members then approached an Engineering shop and we got a number of stainless
steel plates cut and bent for a fraction of the price. Now I know this doesn't help with the luggage
rack question specifically but my suggestion would be that if you have any contacts with an
Engineering (or fabricating) works it may be prudent to ask them what they could do towards
fabricating one for you. This would be even more lucrative if several people wanted them. As for a
design, well there are plenty of photos on the WEB which may give them an idea.

P.S. Anybody got a zip repair kit?
