Miata Mag Sep 2000

Post by zorruno » Fri Oct 06, 2000 11:02 am

I know that the club has not received their bulk supply of Miata Magazines
yet, however, has anyone else received one?

I got one in my Box yesterday direct from the States, and I'm not quite sure
how - I've been posting info about the MCA/Mediasource dispute recently, but
I haven't subscribed directly, and I'm not sure where they got my address
from.

Not that I'm complaining... just wondering...anyone?

Yes, I also got the September issue posted directly from the States a day or
two ago.

No, my copy comes through my membership of the NZ MX5 Club, for the reason
that that has been the cheapest way to get the US magazine (NZ$80, versus
US$50 direct). The only direct contact I've had with the US magazine was to
buy back issues.

When my September copy arrived direct, I decided it had to be in some way
due to the current battles about the US magazine, and particularly because
the (very interesting) discussion of these on the NZ club website, at
http://www.mx5club.org.nz/news/mazda_news/200900_mca/
says that "[the NZ club] pay separately for the magazine, which is posted
out by MediaSource". So I assumed the NZ club had supplied MediaSource with
a list of individual addresses, because one of them wanted it done that way.

Ah ha. Your address must have come from their back issue purchaser list.
MediaSource basically sent it to anyone that they could get an address for
that they knew previously had got the magazine. I've never ordered a back
issue however - so I'm still lost as to where my address came from.

The club has never supplied individual addresses to MS - I personally
investigated this, but it is still cheaper for the club to buy in bulk and
distribute to members. It is getting very expensive with the exchange rate
however - and the club will probably have to re-evaluate sometime soon.

still wondering...

I also got one directly from the states about three days ago.

I have made purchases in the past from several Miata.net sponsors and
on-line vendors, and I beleive some of them supplied their mailling
lists to MediaSource.

Fletch.
