Petrol octane (was Re: Rear Mud Flaps)

Post by zorruno » Fri Sep 22, 2000 2:53 pm

Tj,
I've been putting 96 in it, but due to current rising petrol prices I've
switched to 91 and found the car sluggish. Which should I be putting in
it?

You can put either in, but you may need to change the timing to match. I use
91 and have my timing set to 14 above TDC(top dead center).
My 94 is now at around 16 deg adv. I use 96 octane. If I use even half a
tank of 91 I get noticeable knock on load. I think it just depends on the
car. I like the lower end feel that this much advance gives, and wouldn't
go back. Others are running at 18 deg without probs I believe.

I'd say anything up to 14 deg you'd be fine on 91 octane - you shouldn't
notice any difference by using 96.
