Drive shaft squeak

Post by Owen Haskell » Wed Sep 20, 2000 7:54 pm

Hi folks I have a '91MX5 with a small problem.
I have a drive shaft (?) squeak which occurs when the car is warmed up. It
occurs at all times (when the car is in neutral, off, or clutch-in. I think
it may be the universal joints. Particularly prominent when moving on a
smooth surface between 10 - 40 km.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Owen
MX5's are not known to have driveshaft problems even when you put
twice the HP into them, its quite possibly a brake problem or a
suspension noise, check your sway bar also, almost impossible to know
without being in the car as different people hear something else, i
take it you have taken another pair of ears in the car as well, is it
definitely coming from the rear?

It may possibly be the clutch. According to Norm Garrett in his Performance
Handbook a 'Friendly' squeak can be 'caused by the junction between the
slave cylinder's actuating arm and the clutch release fork'.
