Roof leaks and other things
1) Went on a wonderful ride this week from Christchurch to Nelson then back
via Blenheim having finally solved the speed vibration problem after having
all 4 wheels balanced twice (by different firms) by swapping the wheels
diagonally (left rear to fright front etc) Dont know why it stopped the 100k
vibs but it has. Also found running my low profile tyres at 18psi(!!) gives a
comfortable ride and they didnt come off the rims on all the lovely tight
corners.
2) It rained in Nelson and I found the roof leaked along the stitching over
the drivers seat. It is a recently made roof. A local canvas firm in Nelson
said all roofs leak at first until the stitching swells, but it still leaked
after two days parked out in the rain. Anyone got any ideas how to stop the
leaks??
3) I also fitted fog lights using the two holes found over the tow mounts.they
are linked via a relay to side lights and means I can use them during the
daytime so people see me better. Will this lighting arrangement be a problem
with WOF?
4) Does anyone know where I can get switches that fit the blanks? I notice
the 3 blanks are all wired to something. Has anyone found the other end to
these three banks of wires?

My used 1990 Enos Roadster also leaked in the same spot as yours - I first
used some "Turtle Wax Formula 2000 Super Protectant With Sun Stop" (less
than $10) on the whole soft top. It worked fine and is great on leather,
plastic, vinyl etc, EXCEPT that it causes a slight oily haze on the windows
when it rains and some of it runs. Also, it didn't stop the leak - which
returned in less severe form a few weeks later.
I have recently used "GoodLook," ($25 at the shows) an excellent treatment
cream which we knew as Renapur back in Africa - it's great for just about
everything leather, vinyl, plastic and wood-like (except suede) and has
given my soft top lustre, suppleness, sheen and... made it confidently
waterproof.
Regards,
Chris

Phil,
The three blanks are - from left to right- Fog lights, instrument cluster
illumination resistor and hard top demister. These are all wired to the rear
of the blanks. You pull the blanks out and put the switches in, available from
your friendly Mazda dealer or wrecker.

Mine has the f/lights switch (presumably wired) but where do they hide the
other, business, end?

You should find them tied up inside the nose.Lie down at the front of the
vehicle and look inside. A mirror is useful to get a view upwards, also a
torch..

Is the foglight wiring linked to any other of the front lights?

Phil; The plug for the fog lights is located in the loom running down the
mudguard just forward of the fuse/relay box under the bonnett, The factory
lights plug into this and thr relay is mounted on the rh headlight

I see that, just beside where I have fitted my relay. I may be able to use
it depending on the wiring. I was going to earth the relay through the
switch. What's the plug for on the loom running down the otherside of the
engine bay? Are the shop fog lights fitted to the holes above the front tow
points?
