Oil Pressure

Post by Graeme Naisbitt » Thu Oct 04, 2001 8:42 am

Ok, this is probably a really stupid question... but here goes anyway :)

When I start up when my mx has been stood for a while, I notice that the oil
pressure is very high - would this indicate its time to change the oil
filter? I notice when the car is warmed up (viscosity is reduced) the
pressure reduces... Would this be correct?

OK, second question, is it worth removing the cat and putting in a
resonator? Performance gains or not? Any other cheap ie virtually free,
mods I can do? (Already got 14 degree timing)

Thanks peeps...

Hi Gram.
Normal thing to happen with the oil pressure.Once the engine reaches
operating temp you should have a reading of 2.0 to 3.0 kg cm2 at 1000 rpm
and 3.0 to 4.0 kg cm2 at 3000 rpm
These figures are from the Mazda Miata Enthusiast's Shop Manual.

Thanks,

Operating temperature figures seem ok, but its just under 6.0 kg cm2 at
start up until normal temp is reached, is this a problem?

Mine is almost at 6 on start up too. I was initially concerned when I first
got the car but my mechanic said it wasn't a problem.

Thats great then, I was just a bit worried as I hadn't noticed it being
quite that high before.

Thanks
